It’s worth making friends with Facebook
Posted by Simon, February 22 2012 at 13:06Making friends with an account manager at Facebook is out of bounds for many (there are spend thresholds involved) but it can pay dividends in the management of your Facebook profile and in the protection of your brand reputation.
If you’re a recognised brand and late into social media, you’ll more than likely find an array of unofficial Facebook profiles masquerading as you, happily attracting fans and most probably under-servicing them. Fans are none the wiser and your brand is potentially compromised.
It’s at this moment that you want to hook up with Facebook HQ – or get your agency to. Some string pulling with an account manager can get unofficial profiles shut down and fans migrated over to your official profile. We’ve just done it for Bluewater with good results. Within weeks of taking on Bluewater’s social media, we’ve negotiated a migration of 65,000 checkins and 15,000 fans from unofficial profiles. This, combined with proactive management of Bluewater’s official profile, has also significantly improved Bluewater’s visibility in Facebook search.
Thanks to the guys at Facebook for your help with this.
