BBC launches new Crimewatch website to attract new users interested in local and national crime prevention
Posted by lauren, June 2 2009 at 10:02The BBC’s Crimewatch website has relaunched to extend its role beyond ‘on-the-night’ programme support and to get behind the upcoming Crimewatch Roadshow.
The new format ‘destination’ site, designed by interactive agency Pancentric Digital, aims to lift the baseline of website traffic from the current core audience of TV viewers and become a central hub for authoritative, credible advice and information for anyone in the UK interested in crime prevention, nationally and locally.
Of the new site, James Prebble, Digital Strategist, Pancentric says “The site underwent detailed information architecture and wire framing phase to ensure the site was intuitive and informative. Previously the Crimewatch site had been difficult to navigate and overly complex resulting in declining visitor numbers. The new Crimewatch site represents a significant improvement in the overall visitor experience.”
While the site continues to support the ever-popular show, with reconstructions and CCTV footage for users to view again after the show, the new site now also provides ongoing updates on the status of cases and includes a new Solved section, featuring historic cases, as well as updates on recent convictions. Specially commissioned pieces also give a forensic insight into selected cases.
The site launches ahead of the Crimewatch roadshow, a series of live daily shows to be filmed across the UK for four weeks in June presented by Sophie Raworth and Rav Wilding on BBC One Daytime; and will continue to support other related programming including Crimewatch on the Streets and the Crimewatch Solved strand.
