BBC appoints Pancentric Digital to redesign Crimewatch website
Posted by lauren, April 15 2009 at 9:37The BBC Crimewatch website is to undergo a redesign by interactive agency Pancentric Digital to extend its role beyond ‘on-the-night’ programme support and to also get behind the Crimewatch Roadshow later this year.
Says BBC Site Producer, Joanna Witt, “Our new format ‘destination’ site is to offer the public online access to authoritative, credible advice and information about crime and crime fighting. We’re aiming to lift the baseline of website traffic from the current core audience of TV viewers to anyone in the UK interested in crime prevention, nationally and locally.”
While the site will continue to support the ever-popular show – (it currently has all the reconstructions and CCTV footage available for viewers to watch again after the show) – it will also provide ongoing updates on the status of cases and have a new Solved section, featuring historic cases, as well as updates on recent convictions. Specially commissioned pieces will also give a forensic insight into selected cases.
In addition to the site redesign, Pancentric Digital is to work on search optimisation, particularly focusing on attracting new users interested in local crime prevention. This links with a new Crimewatch roadshow to be filmed across the UK. The new daytime series runs for four weeks throughout June.
The site will continue to support other related BBC programming including Crimewatch on the Streets and the Crimewatch Solved strand.
